A more sustainable chemistry with elemental sulfur

Elemental sulfur has been known in alchemy since ancient times as one of the oldest elements.

The first organic reaction involving this element was reported by Willgerodt for more than a century with a huge mechanistic enigma without any satisfactory explanation. Today, elemental sulfur continues to show a very rich redox chemistry which can roughly be classified into two categories with or without incorporation of sulfur to the organic scaffolds.

This talk will summarize some examples of new reactivities of this element recently observed in our laboratory with a strong accent on the green nature of the reactions.
