Principle of Semiconductor Quantum Cascade Laser and It’s Application
to Chemical Gas Detection
There are many laboratory instrumental methods for analysing gaseous chemicals, but there are many limitations to detecting and identifying gaseous chemicals directly and quickly in the field and further optimizing the technology in the a portable way. Currently, Sensors for detecting gaseous chemicals are mainly applied by light detection, ion mobility detection using molecular properties, and methods using electrical properties of semiconductor devices or special precious metals. In this presentation, the principle and characteristics of QCL(Quantum Cascade Laser) as a kind of semiconductor laser and future detection sensor, and it’s application of the chemical gas detection technology in the mid-IR ranger(8~12㎛) will be explained. In particular, I’d like to introduce the detection and identification technology of the toxic chemical agents with absorption peaks in the mid-IR range.
