2023 Truth Scholarship Program Application Notice (Deadline: May 12)
Eligibility: Undergraduate students in the 2nd or 3rd year of the Department of Chemistry at Seoul Campus in 2023
(Up to 8 students will be selected; students on leave, completed students, or credit exchange students are not eligible)
Required Documents: One copy of the Truth Scholarship Application Form and Study Plan
Application Period: Until May 12, 2023 (Friday) by 5:00 PM
Submission Location: Chemistry Department Office (Asan Science Building, Room 334A, 9:00–17:00, lunch break 12:00–13:00)
Program Activities
- 1:1 personalized guidance with an assigned advisor
- Assignment based on the student's research interest; interview may be required if necessary
- Each professor can supervise up to two Truth Scholars
- Exploration and selection of research topics through meetings with the advisor
- Conduct research linked with advanced undergraduate studies
- Mandatory activity period: May 1, 2023 – December 8, 2023
- Completion of the program fulfills the Advanced Research in Major course requirement for advanced major graduation
- Enrollment in "Advanced Research in Major II" during the 2023 Fall semester
- Mandatory attendance at conferences (Korean Chemical Society, Polymer Society, Mass Spectrometry Society, etc.); poster presentations encouraged. Conference attendance expected in the second half of 2023.
- Research presentation workshop (scheduled for mid-December 2023)
- Submission of research notes and final research report (by February 28, 2024)
- Promotion of outstanding research results published by the first author in an international journal during undergraduate studies on the department and college websites/newsletters
Selection Criteria
- Consideration of the applicant's passion and sense of challenge as described in the Study Plan, and how the scholarship will help them in their career.
- Academic performance is not heavily considered in the selection process.
- Applicants receiving other scholarships, including full scholarships, are also eligible to apply.
Usage of Truth Scholarship Funds
- Research activity expenses (e.g., research notes, supplies, copies, poster production)
- Partial support for research materials/analysis costs
- Conference participation fees (registration, travel, accommodation)
- Additional expenses based on the specific needs of each research lab
Expected Outcomes
- Development of research skills and understanding of technology trends
- Publication in international journals through undergraduate research
- Establishment of a strong record for future careers in chemistry-related fields
- Significant advantage for employment and graduate school admissions
