2023 Fall Semester Graduate School Comprehensive Exam Notice

1. Exam Types (Comprehensive Exam Exemption Policy Abolished)

  • Written Exam
  • Oral Exam: Conducted on topics such as major subjects, thesis, and other areas specified by each department

    * For specific details on each department's comprehensive exam format, refer to departmental regulations.

2. Eligibility Requirements

  • Master's Program: Must have earned at least 12 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Doctoral Program: Must have earned at least 21 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Integrated Master’s and Doctoral Program: Must have earned at least 30 credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0

* Earned credits must be from major coursework (excluding research guidance, prerequisite, and advisor-designated courses).

* Students may take the comprehensive exam regardless of foreign language exam results or enrollment status.

* Departments restricting students from taking the comprehensive exam without completing advisor-designated (prerequisite) courses must confirm the completion of these courses prior to allowing exam registration.

* As of Spring 2019, course credit requirements for exam eligibility have been relaxed (refer to general graduate school policies). However, additional requirements may apply depending on the department; confirm with the university administrative office.

3. Application for the Exam

  • Period: September 4, 2023 (Mon) – September 6, 2023 (Wed) * Strictly adhere to the application period.
  • Location: Online application / Department Administrative Office
    • * Chemistry students must bring a transcript and apply at the department office.
  • Application Method: Apply via 'KUPID Portal Internet Application' or submit the 'Comprehensive Exam (Written/Oral) Application Form'
    • Check application details if applying online:
      KUPID → Exam Application/Confirmation → Comprehensive Exam Application → Comprehensive Exam Subjects - Ensure that all selected subjects are listed.
    • If submitting the application form due to special circumstances, complete all details, and obtain confirmation from both the advisor and department head before submission.

4. Written Exam Period and Location

  • The exam will be held from September 19, 2023 (Tue) to September 27, 2023 (Wed) at the time and location designated by each department.
  • For the exact location and time, please contact the department office.

* Masks are mandatory when entering the exam hall due to COVID-19 precautions.

5. Announcement of Results

  • Date: October 13, 2023 (Fri) at 2:00 PM (tentative)
  • Check results via personal portal (KUPID) under "Academic Records/Graduation → Exam Application/Confirmation → Check Pass Status"
