2022 Academic Operations Plan for the Second Semester

We would like to provide guidance on the 2022 second semester academic operations plan for the Seoul campus.

(Please note that this academic operations plan, effective as of June 3rd, is subject to change.)

The modes of class operation are as follows:

  1. We primarily conduct face-to-face classes.

  2. In consideration of the nature and objectives of courses, if it is determined that non-face-to-face class formats contribute to better educational outcomes and satisfaction, we allow for non-face-to-face or hybrid (face-to-face & non-face-to-face simultaneous) class operations.

    • Class types are categorized as face-to-face, non-face-to-face, or hybrid (face-to-face & non-face-to-face simultaneous).
    • Mixing face-to-face and non-face-to-face on a weekly or daily basis is generally not permitted.
  3. Non-face-to-face classes are conducted in real-time, and pre-recorded lectures are not permitted.

    • In cases of unavoidable circumstances or when it maximizes educational effectiveness, pre-recorded lectures may be allowed through approval processes by the university and the department offering the course.
    • Approved pre-recorded lectures must ensure students' right to learn and maintain the qualitative standards of online lectures by:
      1. Uploading lecture materials before the scheduled lecture time.
      2. Providing newly recorded lecture content for the current semester. Additionally, students must engage in online learning activities (quizzes, discussions, etc.) during the designated class times.
  4. The scheduling of non-face-to-face classes within the departments considers the proportion of non-face-to-face lectures.

    • Time slots are divided into morning and afternoon sessions on specific days.
    • The proportion and days of non-face-to-face classes may vary depending on the university (department) circumstances.
  5. The default assessment method is face-to-face exams.

    • Exams are conducted for a period of two weeks.
      1. Midterm exams are held from October 20th to November 2nd (subject to change due to special circumstances).
      2. Final exams are held from December 8th to December 21st.
    • The first week of the exam period is designated for exams for courses intended for 3rd and 4th-year students, while the second week is for courses intended for 1st and 2nd-year students.
    • For courses conducting final exams in the 15th week, the statutory class days must be met within 15 weeks.
    • Any classes outside of exam times during the exam period are conducted according to the format determined at the time of course offering.
  6. The criteria for allocating classrooms for face-to-face and hybrid classes are as follows:

    • Classrooms can accommodate 100% of the maximum capacity for face-to-face and hybrid classes (with distancing measures suspended).
    • No classrooms are allocated for non-face-to-face classes.
    • Separate exam rooms will be assigned through the university administration office or the department offering the course during face-to-face exams.
  7. The methods of class operation (class types) and assessment, including exam schedules, will be announced via the course information retrieval function before course registration.

    • Class types, such as face-to-face, non-face-to-face, or hybrid, can be confirmed in the course syllabus.
    • Class types are generally not subject to change during the semester.
  8. Separate standards may apply to graduate schools and the Sejong campus.
